Allocating Christmas Leave

You don’t have to look hard to see that Christmas is starting to make an appearance, which means if they haven’t already, the holiday requests will soon be flooding in. It can be difficult juggling requests, authorising leave fairly across the workforce whilst at the same time ensuring the business needs are met. Here are some of the most important things to keep in mind when deciding how you are going to deal with this process:

  • Decide how you will accommodate conflicting requests and who will get priority
  • If you have a loyal and longstanding workforce, review which employees have previously been granted leave
  • Keep morale high by ensuring that Management request do not take precedence over other employees
  • Some employees will request time off due to changes in childcare arrangements - be careful not to favour these requests over employees without children
  • Think about how you can amend work patterns and flexibility over the festive period to accommodate more requests
  • Consider whether you can take on any temporary staff to covering business demands
